Getting Started
RagPack is self-hostable semantic search and RAG infrastructure. This guide gets you from zero to a running instance in a few minutes.
Prerequisites
- Docker and Docker Compose
- Node.js 18+ (for the CLI)
Install the CLI
npm install -g ragpack
Or use it without installing:
npx ragpack <command>
Quick start
1. Initialize your config:
npx ragpack init
This creates .env.ragpack in the current directory.
2. Start the stack:
# With Ollama (fully local)
npx ragpack start --profile ollama
# With OpenAI — edit .env.ragpack first
npx ragpack start
3. Open the admin UI:
Go to http://localhost:3000 to create collections, ingest documents, and run queries.
The REST API is available at http://localhost:9000/api/v1.

Edit .env.ragpack to configure your embedding provider:
